Entry Requirements.

Undergraduate Courses

Applicants with higher education study

Aussie Bachelor’s grads can apply to any AIH program, getting up to 12 Advanced Standing credits. Those with incomplete higher ed studies can also get up to 12 credits with one year of accredited Aussie tertiary study. Check Advanced Standing Policy for details.

Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study

VET-qualified applicants need at least Certificate IV to join AIH Bachelor’s programs. Partner provider Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas offer up to 8 Advanced Standings. Even without agreements, similar VET units can count. Unfinished VET qualifications trigger assessment based on Year 12 or life experience. See Advanced Standing Policy for more.

Applicants with recent secondary education (within the past 2 years)

Australian Year 12 students. The minimum requirement for applicants who completed Year 12 within the last 2 years is an ATAR of 65% with 2 units, Mathematics and English (minimum Band 4) or equivalent.

ATAR related adjustments

Other admission options

Students with disability, illness or family disruption that affected their ATAR score, may be considered for admission if enough evidence of their situation is provided. They will need to complete the “Reasonable Adjustment Form” available on the AIH website. For further information, please refer to the Student Assessment Policy and Student Assessment Procedure.

Interstate Year 12

Applicants follow NSW criteria. Alternate qualifications undergo a case-by-case assessment with Admissions and CEO approval.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

Special pathways for Indigenous applicants who don’t meet standard requirements include assessment, interview, personal statement, and Special Admissions Test, reviewed by the CEO for entry. Please refer to the Student Admission Policy and Student Admission Procedure for further information.

Domestic applicants with an overseas qualification

Applicants who have completed qualifications overseas will be assessed according to the respective country entry requirement as per the Student Admission Policy.

English language proficiency*

For students whose secondary education was conducted in a language other than English:

  • IELTS overall band score: 6.0 (no band less than 5.5) or equivalent (Refer to Appendix 2); or
  • English for Academic Purposes Certificate of Proficiency from an Institute’s approved ELICOS provider.

The Institute reserves the right to waive the English Language Requirements if the prospective applicant meets the criteria below:

  • Successful completion of an accredited course from the Australian Qualifications

Needed: Cert IV or higher in a related field, or one year of tertiary study in the past 2 years before the course starts.

  • Successful completion of the requirements for the Australian Senior Secondary
  • Certificate of Education in a course that was conducted in Australia in English.
  • Successfully completed Cambridge CAE & CPE 169+.
  • Successfully completed International Baccalaureate (IB) English B Standard Level grade 5, higher-level (A1 or A2) grade 4.
  • Students from the following countries who have completed senior secondary study or at least one year of full-time university study in one of these countries and the language in which the qualification was undertaken in English: American Samoa, Fiji, Jamaica, New Zealand, Solomon Islands, UK, Australia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, USA, Botswana, Guyana, Lesotho, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Zambia, Canada, Ireland, Liberia, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, Zimbabwe.

*AIH reserves the right to request proof of English language proficiency.

Advanced Standing (AS) / Academic Credit / Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

You may be entitled to credit for prior learning, based on formal studies. Formal learning can include previous study in higher education, vocational education, or adult and community education. Credit can reduce the amount of study needed to complete a degree.

Postgraduate Courses

Domestic students must provide evidence of one of the following to demonstrate they have successfully met the educational entry requirements:

  • Successful completion of a recognised Undergraduate qualification

Academic entry requirements

Assumed Knowledge

Unit Code: MBIS4002 Software Development is a unit that requires the student to have assumed knowledge of coding. Students who do not have the assumed knowledge background are not prevented from enrolling but will be offered conditional admission and be required to take the BISY1003 Foundations of Programming Unit.

English language equivalence requirements*:

For international students whose secondary education was conducted in a language other than English:

  • IELTS overall band score: 6.5 (no band less than 6.0) or equivalent (Refer to Appendix 2); or
  • Equivalent alternative English Language test
  • To meet the English language requirement, the certificate used should be within the past 2 years to the commencing date of the course applied at the Institute.

The Institute reserves the right to waive the English Language Requirements if the prospective applicant meets the criteria below:

  • Successful completion of an accredited course from the Australian Qualifications
  • Framework at a Bachelor’s degree level in a related discipline or above.
  • AIH reserves the right to request proof of English language proficiency.
  • An exemption into an AIH award unit exempts students from studying and undertaking assessments for that unit. The onus is on students to present evidence to prove that they have sufficient knowledge to meet the unit requirements through other approved studies.
