Domestic Students

All applicants should be at least 18 years of age at the commencement date of the course or unit in which the applicant will be enrolled as a student if the application is successful.

Academic Entry Requirements

Domestic students must provide evidence of one of the following:

Australian Year 12 students. The minimum requirement for applicants who completed Year 12 within the last 2 years is an ATAR of 55% with 2 units, Mathematics and English (minimum Band 4) or equivalent. 

VET-qualified applicants need at least Certificate IV to join AIH Bachelor’s programs. Partner provider Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas offer up to 8 Advanced Standings. Even without agreements, similar VET units can count. Unfinished VET qualifications trigger assessment based on Year 12 or life experience. See Advanced Standing Policy for more.

Aussie Bachelor’s grads can apply to any AIH program, getting up to 12 Advanced Standing credits. Those with incomplete higher ed studies can also get up to 12 credits with one year of accredited Aussie tertiary study. Check Advanced Standing Policy for details.

Not available at AIH.

Students with disability, illness or family disruption that affected their ATAR score, may be considered for admission if enough evidence of their situation is provided. They will need to complete the “Reasonable Adjustment Form” available on the AIH website. For further information, please refer to the Student Assessment Policy and Student Assessment Procedure.

Applicants follow NSW criteria. Alternate qualifications undergo a case-by-case assessment with Admissions and CEO approval.

Special entry arrangements are available for Aboriginal and Torres strait Islanders applicants who don’t meet domestic student entry requirements. Applicants standard requirements include assessment, interview, personal statement, and Special Admissions Test, reviewed by the PEO for entry. Please refer to the Student Admission Policy and Student Admission Procedure for further information.

Applicants who have completed qualifications overseas will be assessed according to the respective country entry requirement as per the Student Admission Policy.

Students must provide evidence of the following to demonstrate they have successfully met one of the following:

  • A completed Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) or higher in any discipline from an Australian university or college or international equivalent, or
  • A recognised Diploma or equivalent and two years’ relevant professional experience, or
  • A minimum of five years’ relevant professional experience may enrol in this course (subject to the Dean or Program Manager’s approval).

For students whose previous studies were conducted in a language other than English:

  • Diploma Courses: Academic IELTS overall band score of 5.5 (no band less than 5.0) or equivalent.
  • Associate Degree and Bachelor Courses: Academic IELTS overall band score 6.0 (no band less than 5.5) or equivalent.
  • Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma Courses: Academic IELTS overall band score 6.0 (no band less than 5.5) or equivalent.
  • Master Courses: Academic IELTS overall band score 6.5 (no band less than 6.0) or equivalent.

*AIH reserves the right to request proof of English language proficiency. To meet the English language requirement, the certificate used should be within the past 2 years to the commencing date of the course applied at the Institute.

The Institute reserves the right to waive the English Language Requirements if the prospective applicant meets the criteria below:

Undergraduate Courses:

  • Successful completion of:
  • an accredited course from the Australian Qualifications Framework at Certificate IV level in a related discipline or above, or one-year tertiary study within the past 2 years prior to the course commencement;
  • an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education in English;
  • a Cambridge CAE & CPE course with 169+;
  • the International Baccalaureate (IB) English B Standard Level grade 5, higher-level (A1 or A2) grade 4; at least 2 units of study at AQF Level 5 or higher at an Australian provider within the previous 12 months;
  • an approved English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program offered by an ELICOS provider that has been approved under a direct entry agreement;
  • an equivalent alternative English Language test approved by the Institute; or
  • senior secondary study or at least one year of full-time university in a recognised country, where English language was the medium of instruction (refer to Appendix 3 of the Student Admissions Policy).

Postgraduate Courses:

Successful completion of:

  • A Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) or higher in any discipline from an Australian university or college or international equivalent;
  • at least 2 units of study at AQF Level 8 or higher at an Australian provider within the previous 12 months;
  • an approved English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program offered by an ELICOS provider that has been approved under a direct entry agreement;
  • an equivalent alternative English Language test approved by the Institute; or
  • senior secondary study or at least one year of full-time university in a recognised country, where English language was the medium of instruction (refer to Appendix 3 of the Student Admissions Policy)

You may be entitled to credit for prior learning, based on formal studies. Formal learning can include previous study in higher education, vocational education, or adult and community education. Credit can reduce the amount of study needed to complete a degree.
